The Christian Brothers Falcons defeated the McClatchy Lions in the first round of the Bill Cartwright Invitational Tournament at Elk Grove High School. Michael Moreno ‘21 led the team in scoring once again, pouring in 22 points and 6 rebounds on 8 for 14 shooting, including 5-10 on threes. Ryan Toschi ‘20 had another double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
The Falcons led consistently throughout the game, leading 16-10 after the first quarter and 28-27 at halftime. They pulled away in the third, and were able to hold off the Lions for a 61-53 win.
Elk Grove defeated Center 71-46 in the other game on Christian Brothers’ side of the bracket, so they will face off tonight at 7:00 pm. St. Mary’s defeated Damonte Ranch and River City beat Lodi, so St. Mary’s and River City will matchup on the other side of the winner’s bracket.
Depending on the Falcons next result, they will play either the winner or the loser of the St. Mary’s/River City game. With a win, the Falcons would play at 7:00 pm on Saturday night for the tournament championship. With a loss, they would play at 3:30 on Saturday for 3rd place.
