Attached is an update from last week’s soccer events:
Jan 4: The Falcons returned to action after the holiday break with the beginning of CAL play. The Falcons traveled to always-tough Del Campo to face the Cougars. While the Falcons came out strong at the beginning of the game, they were unable to find the back of the net in the first half. CB dominated play at times, but appeared a bit rusty from the break. However, the team did not let their guard down or give up. The team continued to combine passes together and create goal-scoring opportunities, but the Del Campo goalkeeper was able to make some “out of this world” saves. Luckily, the Falcons are a mentally-tough group who continued to trust their teammates and work together. This persistence paid off in the final minute of the game when sophomore forward Reign Saldana got his foot on the end of a corner kick and put the ball in the back of the net to secure the win for the Falcons. This gave the Falcons their first league win of the season (1-0).
Jan 6: CB hosted the Laguna Creek Cardinals in a non-league match. The team started off hot, with senior forward Miguel Cornejo scoring the first goal of the match in the 2nd minute of the game. At this point, the Falcons assumed the game would be an easy win. However, Laguna Creek fought back and earned a penalty kick on a mistake by the Falcons. After converting the penalty, the game was tied 1-1 going into halftime. After some encouragement and motivation from the coaching staff at halftime, the Falcons came out with a new intensity and drive that they hadn’t shown before. Sophomore Collin Ross and Senior Aiden Carroll both scored goals in the second half to earn the Falcons the 3-1 win and improve their overall record to 6 wins, 2 ties, and 2 losses. Their next match is Tuesday (1/11 at Vista Del Lago).
