Last Wednesday night the women's varsity soccer team played Rio Americano in a crucial league matchup. Having tied Del Campo 0-0 in a rainy sloppy game the night before, the Falcons were determined to stay relevant in the race for league champs. At the opening kickoff, it was apparent that this would be a highly competitive game and our Lady Falcons would need to play a near flawless matchup. The Rio Raiders came out faster and more aggressive getting on the scoreboard first with a goal from their sophomore striker Raegan Rossi. The first half for our Falcons was played mostly on our defensive half. The CB defense along with excellent play from goalkeeper Veronica O'Neill ('26) managed to keep the game within reach down 0-1.
Coaches Rudy, Paul and Lexi needed to infuse some much-needed energy into the team at halftime. Play from the Falcons finally rose to the level all their fans know they are more than capable of. Midfielder Baily Rakela ('25) provided grit and hustle all over the pitch. This fire would prove to be a spark allowing CB to play most of the half on the offensive side. With opportunities few and far between and the importance of capitalizing on those chances, our Lady Falcons were awarded a free kick 10 min into the half. With not much thought, Coach Rudy called on Courtney Chin ('25) who moved to midfielder from the outside back position to take the kick from just outside the box about 20 yards out. Chin ('25) was able to hit the kick cleanly avoiding a 3-man wall, placing it perfectly past the outstretched hands of the Rio goalie. The rest of the game relied heavily on defenders Sarah Pritchard ('24) and Kamryn Lee ('24) to do their job. In the final minutes of the game, Rio barraged the defensive with a few last effort scoring chances that were denied by Falcon goalkeeper Reese Kennedy ('27) who provided tremendous effort and saves beyond her years. Final score 1-1. The future is bright with our young goalkeepers O'Neill ('26) and Kennedy ('27). Overall record 6-3-3, League 3-1-2
The Falcons will play their last regular season home game tonight against Capital Christian on Senior Night at 6:00pm. Come out to wish them well and help send off our seniors!
