Cross Country
It was a very busy 12 days for CBXC. After a successful meet at Flat Sac on October 16, the Falcons headed down South to the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational in Pomona. Returning to Mt. SAC after a one-year hiatus, CB varsity runners took to a course whose hills have names like, “The Switchbacks” and “Poop out Hill” against some of Southern California’s top teams. At the end of the day, the varsity men’s team consisting of Senior, Hunter Rojas, Juniors, Jacob Schnetz, Jack Stokes, and Raphael Lobo, Sophomores, Ryan Dong and Sami Bateman and Rookie Bradley Bertossa finished second in their race! This is the highest finish for CB and shows a lot of promise for the future of CB cross country.
For the women, even in the absence of top runner Malia Gay, 9th grader Alicia Romani’s 11th place finish was enough to lead the CB women to a respectable 6th place among 29 other teams. Alicia’s supporting cast included Juniors, Paige Sparks and Rain Cheng along with 10th graders Jenna Martinez, Michelle Ratliff and 9th graders Abigail Madrigal-Geary and Allie Moya. Again, with so much youth, CB looks good to push to the top of the San Joaquin Section D-4.
As if two meets in one week isn’t enough, CB hosted the Capital Athletic League XC Finals at Willow Hills Reservoir in Folsom on Halloween. And CB did not disappoint. Of the 58 runners who competed, 29 registered personal best times on this extremely tough course at Folsom High school. Outstanding performances were logged by All-league runners Ryan Dong (3rd) and Alicia Romani (10th) and Bradley Bertossa who won the Frosh/Soph race by a mere 1/1000th of a second over a Vista del Lago runner. As the head coach, I am very proud of the effort of these runners and all who brought their A game to the courses of these past 10 days. Congratulation to one and all.

Women’s Tennis
The temperatures are cooling down, but the Lady Falcons are still red hot as they dominated in the doubles championships this week.
The tournament showed off the team's talent and depth as the teams of Fiona Babcock '21 and Ai-Linh Tran '21 as well as Bianca Cabanag '21 and Tessa Easterling '22 both advanced to the semifinals in the Super Doubles Bracket. In those matches, Babcock and Tran gutted through a tough 6-4, 6-4 sweep, while Cabanag and Easterling won by a score of 6-2, 6-3. The victories set up a winner-take-all Christian Brothers final!
The final match was a nail-biter, going back and forth until Babcock and Tran prevailed by a score of 8-5.
In the Friendship Doubles Tournament the Lady Falcons comprised three of the four teams that made it to the semifinals. On one side of the bracket Emma Emigh '21 and Lena Mikacich '22 faced off against Mariana Garcia '21 and Sophia Garcia '23, and Emma Frink '21 and Lily Witry '20 advanced in the other side of the bracket. Emigh and Mikacich held off Team Garcia 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the finals, while Frink and Witry fought hard before falling 4-6, 4-6. The finals featured a rematch of two teams from the top schools in the Capital Athletic League as Christian Brothers faced off against a team from Vista Del Lago. The match lived up the billing as Emigh and Mikacich outlasted their opponents in a first-set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3) before clinching the championship match 6-4 in the second set.
Next week the Lady Falcons will open up the first round of the playoffs against Valley High School on Monday. The doubles teams of Babcock and Tran, Cabanag and Easterling will also compete in the section championships that start on Thursday.
