Women’s Freshman Basketball
The 4-12 Lady Falcons lost to Vista Del Lago 40-21 last Friday night. Despite being over matched there were notable performances by ANGEL MUCHERU ‘23, who had 8 points and EJ LOPEZ ‘23 who had 6 points. Also ANALICIA CASTELLANO ‘23 had 8 rebounds.
The Lady Falcons are 1-1 in league play and have another league game Friday afternoon January 24th at Rio Americano. Let’s go Falcons!!
Women’s JV Basketball
The JV Lady Falcons fought a tough battle against Vista Del Lago 1/17 and fell short 47-33. Kemani Williams '23 led the way with 13 points 8 rebounds followed by Kemora McKechnie '23 with 9 points 8 rebounds.
On 1/23, the JV Lady Falcons defeated Sac High 60-42 with a whole-team effort on defense. Kemani Williams '23 led the way with 18 points, and 7 steals along with Ofa Po'oi '23 with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
We continue our league play with games against Rio Americano 1/24 and a non-conference home game against Saint Mary's Stockton on Tuesday 1/28!
Women’s Varsity Basketball
After finishing up a great week. The Lady Falcons took on Vista Del Lago after a very slow start and being down 4 points after the 1st quarter, they quickly caught their stride and out scored the visiting Eagles 21-7 in the second quarter. They headed into the half up 10. The stride continued and they were able to pull out a pretty good win 62-38. The Falcons knocked down a combined 10 threes! Leading the way was Sophomore Karli Cooper ‘22 who finished with 15 points before being injured. She knocked down 8/9 free throws! Janelle Chin ‘21 had a stand out game with 12 points and Sarah Jackson ‘21 finished with 9. Every falcon got on the board this game! Way to win ladies!
Next was the start of a 3 game stretch against league opponent El Camino, our girls took the lead early and finished the game winning 67-21. Bria Shine ‘20 led the way with 18 points, Faith Mucheru ‘21 and Isa Warford ‘20 both had phenomenal games and ended with 13 points apiece. Anna Vishaj ‘20 came up big chipping in 10 points. This again was another great team win!!!
On 1/23 the ladies had to take on who is possibly their toughest league opponent, Sac High. Having lost to them both times last year, in some pretty tight games, these ladies battled to pull out the victory beating them 42-34. Our defense was the key to this victory. Leading the way was Sarah Jackson ‘21 who knocked down 12 points, followed by Bria Shine ‘20 with 9 points and Karli Cooper ‘22 chipping in 7. Another great team victory!!!
Up next in the final game of a three game series is Rio Americano whom they play Friday 1/24.
As of right now, CB stands in first place in the CAL at 5-0. Keep moving ladies!!

Men’s JV Basketball
The Men's JV Basketball team continued league play at Vista del Lago on January 18. The Falcons stormed to an early 11-2 lead, but the Eagles chipped away the rest of the game, resulting in another close loss for the Falcons, 44-42. John Marengo ('22) had 16 points to lead all scorers, and Avante Lee ('22) once again had a superb defensive game with 5 steals.
Looking to get back into the win column, the Falcons took on Sac High at home on January 21. The Falcons played one of their best games of the season, playing from start to finish with energy, focus, and teamwork. John Piegaro ('22) was tenacious inside, grabbing a season-high 16 rebounds. John Marengo ('22) and Mike Wiggin ('22) had 17 and 14 points, respectively, and Andre Verspieren ('22) had another great all-around game with 9 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Riding on the energy of the Sac High victory, the Falcons faced Rio Americano on January 24 at home. Everyone contributed to the 48-34 victory, led by Donovan Chock ('22) with 10 points, John Piegaro ('22) with 9 points and 10 rebounds, and Mike Wiggin ('22) with 9 points and 4 steals.
Our Falcons continue league play next week at Del Campo on Wednesday, January 29 and at El Camino on Friday, January 31. We hope to see you there!
Women’s JV Soccer
JV Girls had 1 competition during the week and will be facing St. Francis High School on Saturday in the "Holy Cup".
Tuesday was a home match against Del Campo High School which was an 11-0 Victory for the Falcons. JV Falcons jump out in front of our opponent early on which allowed our starting lineup players to rest and get healthier with some players have been battling the flu recently. Our team had 34 shots as a team and 6 different players scored. Savannah Castillo '23 and Peyton McDonald '23 both had hat tricks (3 goals each). Lilly Jensen '23 had 2 goals and Emily Mayes '23, Paola Pasqua '23, and Abigail Vanderpool '23 each scored a goal.
Saturday's match will be at 2pm at Cristo Rey High School against St. Francis HS for the "Holy Cup". Please come out to support and cheer them on. Admission will be free and the SF Booster Club will be providing free BBQ for all attending. Hope to see everyone there to cheer on your CB Falcons!
The St. Francis and Christian Brothers soccer programs will be collecting donations for Saint John’s Program for Real Change at the game. If attending, please consider donating.
Women’s Varsity Soccer
Tuesday night The Lady Falcons hosted Del Campo. The Cougars came out of the gates quick scoring in the first minute. Our lady Falcons were caught off guard and it was a reality check. In the first half CB took numerous shots but nothing could find the back of the net. The first half ended with the visitors up 1-0. In the second half again CB shots from outside the box and had several 1v1 opportunities with the Del Campo keeper but to no luck. Finally, Junior Lexi Rakela (21) found the back of the net to even out the match. In the end and after 14 shots the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
On Thursday we traveled to Sac High. The Lady Falcons score in the first minutes of the match and managed another goal before halftime thanks to the efforts of Brooklyn Horst (23). In the second half after a talk from the coaching staff about the desire to shoot more, CB unleashed a ton of shots. The second half bombardment started with junior Payton Smith (21) scoring, that followed with Grace Cloete (22), Gracelynn Selleaze (20) with a quality set piece outside the box. In addition the following players also scored, Elisabeth Ledesma (23), Katheryn Lopez (23), Claire LaRocca (22) and Brooklyn Horst (23) adding her third goal. Final 9-0 CB. Next up The Holy Cup hosted by St Francis this Saturday 4:00 kick off at Cristo Rey High School.
Men’s JV Soccer
Last Tuesday night our young Falcons traveled to Del Campo HS to take on the Cougars. The Falcons scored quickly in the first half as Aeden Carroll '22 scored on left footed shoots seven minutes into the game. The Falcons took control of the game and outplayed the Cougars for most of the first half creating many scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of net.
In the 2nd half the Falcons came out hungry and determined to win the game. They scored 3 more goals to put the game out of reach, winning the game 4-0. Goals in the 2nd half were scored by Jack Bergfeld '23, Luis Larraguivel '23 and Frankie Maldonado '22. Great jobs boys!
Thursday's night game was cancelled.

Men’s Varsity Soccer
On Tuesday, the Varsity boys travelled to Del Campo to square-off against the Cougars. The Falcons came out swinging, with two quick goals in the first 5 minutes of the game. The first goal came off a corner kick from Josaun Fitten ’20 that was met by fellow-senior Hunter Dierlam ’20 with a great header to the corner of the goal. Goal number 2 was scored by junior defender Tyler Valerio ‘21 off a rebound from 20 yards out. After the initial barrage, the Cougars tightened their defense and shut down the Falcons for the remainder of the half. Del Campo cut the lead in half off a counter-attack header that just beat goalkeeper Johnnie White ’20. The score was 2-1 at half in favor of CB. During the second half, the Falcons picked up their offensive intensity and tightened their defense. The boys in blue scored a goal in the 60th minute on a nice build-up play that was finished again by Dierlam. The team only allowed Del Campo two shots for the entire game. Final score: CB 3-1.
Thursday evening, the Falcons hosted the Sac High Dragons. CB was up 9-0 at half, and finished the game 10-0 winners.
With the wins, the Varsity boys improve to 6-1 in CAL and 11-5-2 Overall. Next up for the Falcons, Capital Christian on Tuesday and Rio Americano on Thursday. Thursday’s game could determine the winner of the CAL. Come out and support the boys on their quest for a league title.
