On Wednesday, the JV Men's Basketball team went on the road to take on Del Campo in a revenge game. In the previous meeting, Del Campo left the Jack Witry Field House with a one point win on a lucky, last second heave from beyond the three point line. The Falcons entered the game focused and ready.
Our Falcons started off on fire, storming to a 12-3 lead. Unfortunately, Del Campo responded quickly, retaking the lead in the second quarter. From then on, it was a back and forth affair. Despite leaving the game with an injury, Andre Verspieren ('22) contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds. John Piegaro ('22) provided 13 points and 7 rebounds in another dominant game on the inside. Mikey Wiggin ('22) had 11 points in the game, none bigger than two key free throws in the last few seconds. Avante Lee ('22) also scored 10 points, but more importantly continued his stellar defense from this season, stopping Del Campo's main scorer before he could get a shot off at the buzzer.
Everyone on the team contributed to the victory, whether through key rebounds, key shot contests, or even just sheer hustle. With the three game win streak, the Falcons are now 15-7 on the season and 4-3 in league play.
Our next games are on Friday, January 31 at El Camino and Wednesday, February 5 at Rio Americano. Both games are at 5:30pm.

Your Varsity Falcons took to the road again in the battle of the birds against the Eagles of Vista Del Lago. The boys held a small lead throughout but turned up the defense late in the second half. A wire to wire victory ended with a final score of 62-44.
The next week brought a much needed home game against an old rival. The Dragons of Sac High came to Falcon Country looking to steal a league win. Your Falcons were up to the task and battled with all they had holding off Sac High's late run. The final score was 56-54!
That same week, the Raiders of Rio Americano also came to our home court looking for a league win. With a well-executed game plan, the Raiders came storming back after an early Falcon lead. Final score - Rio 57 CB 47.
With an overall league record of 4-2, your Varsity Falcons traveled to face the Cougars of Del Campo High School looking for the season sweep. The Cougars had other plans and received some unlikely help from their bench. Down by double digits late, our Brothers battled back and cut it to 4 with just under a minute to go. Del Campo made clutch free throws down the stretch to pull out the 67-54 victory.

Last Saturday St. Francis hosted The Holy Cup at Cristo Rey High School. It was a match with all the hype of a traditional rivalry. CB was without key players, Lexi Rakela (21) who was out injured and both Goalkeepers, starting keeper Lauren Towne (20) and backup Lilly Smith (22). Junior Jordan Pieretti (21) step in to play keeper and held her own quite well. CB got on the board first with a cross from Gracelyn Selleaze (20) in which Grace Cloete ‘21 headed in the first goal of the match. At half our Lady Falcons were up 1-0. The second half would be a different story St. Francis put up 3 goals. It was a valiant effort by CB but in the end SF would come away with the victory.
On Tuesday, CB traveled to Capital Christian. The Lady Falcons had victory set on their minds for this match especially after the SF game. In the first half Captain Sara Cruz (20) started the score fest. This was followed with goals from Elisabeth Ledesma (23), Claire LaRocca (22) and senior Mariah Hudnut (20). This brought the halftime score 4-0 in favor of CB. The second half CB would ring the nets 3 more times. These goals came from senior Ainsley Carroll (20), Elizabeth Ledesma (23) and the final goal from Grace Cloete (22). Final score...a 7-0 victory for The Lady Falcons. This put out overall record to 10-4-4
And league record to 5-1-2. Next up El Camino on Thursday.
Men’s JV Soccer
The JV boys soccer team played one game this week against league rival Rio Americano Raiders. The Falcons started the game very slow as they found themselves down early in the game. The Raiders capitalized on corner kick to go up 1-0 in the first couple of minutes of the game. Ten minutes later they scored again to go up 2-0 at halftime.
The 2nd half was a totally different story as the our young Falcons came out angry and ready to play. The Falcons dominated the 2nd half, as they outplayed the Raiders in every aspect of the game. Miguel Cornejo '22 cut the lead in half as he scored on a beautiful shot to the goalkeeper's left. The Falcons created many more scoring opportunities but were unable to capitalize. Not until Aedan Carroll '22 put in the equalizer on a nice chip shot over the goalie's head. Great job by our boys!! Final score 2-2.
Next week games at River City HS on Monday and at El Camino HS on Thursday.
Overall Record 4-4-7
League Record 1-1-3
Men’s Varsity Soccer
On Tuesday, the Varsity boys hosted Capital Christian. The team came out hungry for another win in CAL play. Goals were scored by Hunter Dierlam ’20, Colin Quinn ’20, Josaun Fitten ’20, and RJ Dore ’20. These goals were assisted by Scott Cotter ’20 and Josaun Fitten ’20 (3 assists). Sophomore goalkeeper Andre Tabunda ’22 earned the win in goal.
Thursday afternoon, the Falcons travelled to Rio Americano for a battle between the two top-teams in CAL. The Falcons knew how important this game was, and it showed in how they played. The boys came out aggressive and hungry and jumped on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute on a nice goal by Josaun Fitten ’20 that was assisted by RJ Dore ’20. While both teams created opportunities on-goal, it was the Falcons who controlled the half. The team combined crisp passing with solid defense and goalkeeping to keep the Raiders on their heels. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Falcons at half. Although CB had the lead at half, they knew that they couldn’t let their foot off the pedal, as Rio is a talented team and can score quickly. The boys in blue were up for the challenge and continued to pressure the Rio defense. In the 63rd minute, senior midfielder Hunter Dierlam ’20 hit a shot from 30 yards out that hit the far post and bounced into the side netting, improving the score to 2-0. This was by-far the best goal of the season for the Falcons, and it brought the team and fans off their seats in celebration. However, the Raiders were not ready to give-up, and they responded by scoring a questionable goal in the 70th minute to bring the score to 2-1. This goal gave some new life to Rio, as they picked up their pressure on the CB defense. Fortunately, CB’s stingy defense was up to the task as goalkeeper Johnnie White ’20 and his defensive line (Tyler Valerio ’21, Zach Santsche ’21, Jackson Ryan ’20, Clark Jacobson ’20, Cole Mellor ’21, and Caleb Quinn ’20) rebuffed the Rio attack time and time again. In the 75th minute, the Falcons responded with a great counter-attack goal. Seniors RJ Dore and Josaun Fitten played a couple quick 1-2 passes to shred through the Rio defense and score the 3rd and final goal. Final score: 3-1 in favor of the Falcons. With the win, the team moves into a tie with Rio for 1st place in the CAL.
With the wins, the Varsity boys improve to 8-1 in CAL and 13-5-2 Overall. Next week, the Falcons have a bye on Tuesday and travel to El Camino on Thursday.
