On Friday night Christian Brothers fans, friends, and family packed into the Ron Limeberger ‘53 Gymnasium to see their Falcons try at Redemption against the El Camino Eagles on Senior Night. The last time these two teams played, the Eagles won with a last second three point dagger, so the Falcons had this game marked on their calendars as a very special game. The 4 seniors who were honored on senior night were Garret Souza ‘23, Joey Vanacore ‘23, Jake Westman ‘23, and Drew Perry ‘23. All 4 of those seniors have had pivotal roles in helping this team win and changing the culture of the basketball team here at Christian Brothers. In the 1st quarter, senior Joey Vanacore ‘23 came out hot hitting 3 three point shots, setting the crowd on fire and helping the team to a 17-10 lead. The Falcons took advantage of the lackadaisical Eagles defense with great passing that led to easy buckets for the Falcons. With all these easy buckets, the Falcons took a nice 44-23 lead over the Eagles. Great rebounding in the 3rd quarter bounced the Falcons into a position of power as they were playing well enough to go up to a 61-38 lead against the Eagles. In the 4th quarter the Falcons kicked the Eagles out of their nest with a 29 point blowout finish to get their redemption on senior night with a final score of 85-56. With 5 players over 10 points in Friday night’s game, the top 3 scorers for the Falcons were Joey Vanacore ‘23 with 16 points, Stephan Hewitt ‘25 with 15 points, and Shawn Underwood ‘25 with 14 points. After going 6-21 last year, The Falcons ended this season at 14-14 and claimed a 10th seed in the playoffs. The Falcons next game is against the West Park Panthers at West Park High School in Roseville on Wednesday night. Good luck Falcons and keep up the good work!
