Dive
Our diving team is adding many points to the swim meet this week against Del Campo. We hope to help the swim team in a win. Currently Shannon Shaw ‘21, is improving tremendously, and she has Marisa Cabrera and Simone Gandy right there to give her good competition. Our seniors, Bella Latino, Sara Littlejohn, and Haylee Adams are a great support to the younger divers and bring good leadership to our team.
Swim
The CB swim team made it through our first two meets of the season with a win against El Camino! The final score for that meet was CB- 496, El Camino- 349. The swimmers had a quick turnaround with the Woodcreek Invitational on Friday & Saturday. The weather was chilly and the winds were gusting, but that didn’t stop the swimmers from swimming their fastest times. Although it was a cold and blustery 2 days and I am so proud of how our swimmers handled the weather and were able to swim fast.
In our division, CB placed third overall, which is a great way to start the season! Our top swimmers for the JV side were Karina Elliott ’22, (30 pts), Patrick Cahill ’22, (31 pts), Liza Mikacich ‘22 (58 pts.) and Parker Spellacy ‘22 (60 pts). For our top Varsity swimmers, we had Nick Piper ‘19 (18pts), Casey Stone ‘22(25 pts), and Thomas Piper ‘21 (65 pts).
The CB Swim team is gearing up for two meets next week- Tuesday versus Jesuit & Saint Francis and Thursday versus Vista Del Lago.
Women’s Lacrosse
Varsity lacrosse lost their last two contests but had moments of really stellar play and fought every minute of each game. The team lost 12-15 in a back and forth game with Sacred Heart Cathedral. Goals were scored by Lily Witry ’20 (4 goals), Ashlinn Phipps ’19 (3 goals) Ari Catillo ’19 (2 goals) Sydney Obmann ’20 and Freshman Claire LaRocca. Tuesday they hosted Vista Del Lago and lost 10-15 the midfield group of Lily Witry ’20, Ari Castillo ’19, and Megan Cann ’22 were able to dominate the draw coming up with the draw the majority of the time. Lily, Ashlinn, Ari, Sydney, and Megan all scored goals. The team looks forward to a rematch next Friday with Vista
Women’s JV Lacrosse
JV lacrosse continues to learn the game and grow in their skills. They host Vista Del Lago Tuesday and lost 1-10. Freshman goal Tessa Easterling had numerous saves, the coaches were so proud of her performance. They really improved on groundballs and the draw. They play Bella Vista Friday 3/15 at home and are on the hunt for their first win.
Men’s Lacrosse
Men’s lacrosse played at Vista del Lago this week. Sam Ketcher ’22 added a third goal to his season, while the Falcons took a loss. Rowen Antony ’22 and Miles Tibon ’22 both took turns in Faceoffs. It was a fast-paced match, with Tyler Webster ’21 having a stand-out defensive game. The boys are looking forward to their first home game next week, hosting Lincoln of Stockton on Tuesday at 4pm.
Rugby
Last Saturday the Christian Brothers men’s rugby team took on the Del Campo Cougars in a league match. The team started the game strong with a try from Jim Ledesma ‘19, the first of his career, and Jared Hunter ‘21 keeping the score within one try going into the second half. The boys ran out of steam in the second half and ended up losing 49-17 with another try from Jared Hunter.
The rugby team responded to this loss with an incredible victory against Sac Pal on Tuesday.
The men of the match were Jared Hunter ‘21 and Aidan O’Malley ‘19, with 3 more tries from Jared and one from Aidan. Jim Ledesma ‘19 and Alex Asher ‘19 also scored some key tries to lead the Falcons to their first win of the season.
When asked about the game against Sac Pal Jim Ledesma said, “They played dirty and still lost”. This shows the will of our men’s Falcons team and how when the other team goes low we go high. The boys were able to stick to their game plan and come away with a win while the other team pulled themselves apart.
The boys plan to continue with performances like these in their upcoming game in San Jose against Silicon Valley on Saturday. Stay tuned for more rugby updates and come cheer on the Falcons at their next home game.
Varsity Softball
We were finally able to play some games this week! Four games were played in the Franklin Tournament.
Game #1: We tied 3 – 3 with Douglas High School (Nevada). It was the first game of the year for both teams, and it showed. Lots of frustration at the plate for both teams, with 13 total strikeouts and only 9 hits between the two teams. Cece Sidley ‘19 pitched very well. Grace Tangen, Kennedy Cunha, Jessica Hennelly and Jacey Greco showed well at the plate. Both Jess and Jacey had a triple. Fine defensive efforts were turned in by Giana Hays, Jess Hennelly and Marissa Alders.
Game #2: After a hard-fought battle, the game ended in a one run loss (5-4) to a very sound Madera HS team that had played ten games prior to ours. Freshman Marissa Alders pitched very well, but we just couldn’t string enough hits together to give her the backing she deserved. Madera scored one run in the bottom of the last inning for the win. We had only five hits and no player had more than one. We had good defensive efforts by the entire team.
The next day, we opened with St. Francis (Game #3) and won 7-4 over our friendly rivals. Cece Sidley got the win. Our top hitters were Giana Hays (triple) Gina Matista (double and 3 RBI) and Cece, who helped her own cause with two RBI. A very fine defensive effort by Giana, Marissa and Jessica.
Game #4: Our last game of the tournament was vs. Vanden. CB won the game 8 – 3. Marissa Alders earned the win. Our hitting showed up for this game, with 10 total hits! Victoria Fenner got her first varsity base hit, Giana Hays had two hits and 3 RBI. Jessica Hennelly had two hits with an RBI; Karina Brouwer had a nice hit and an RBI. Eight players had hits. Defensively, Kennedy Cunha had a strong game at 3rd base , Giana played well and Viviana Dazo had a very good game at second.
On Wednesday, we traveled to Woodland to play Pioneer High and came away with a very windy (gusts up to 25 mph) 18-8 win. Cece got the win. She helped herself greatly at the plate. 4 X 4 with two doubles and 4 RBI. CB had 23 hits in this game: 3 hits each by Gina Matista, Jessica Hennelly, Grace Tangen, and Marissa Alders. Catcher Ysabel Moreno had a double and Karina Brouwer had a nice triple.
We are now 3 – 1 – 1 for the season and will open league play at home Friday vs. Vista del Lago.
Men’s Tennis
Men's Tennis had a great week. We started off playing our first league match vs. Capital Christian on Tuesday. We won 8-1 with notable performances from Alex Stone '21 who won (6-1, 6-0), Ryan Price '21, a (6-2, 6-0) winner and Kai Hay '20 who won again, (6-0,6-1). On Wednesday we travelled to Oakmont High in Roseville and the Falcons played inspired tennis winning 8-1 and only giving up 6 games over the first 6 matches of singles. Senior Brandon Luong '19 played singles for only the second time in his tennis career and it went great. He won (6-1, 6-1). Our #2 double teams of Mitchell "Big Mitch" Youker '22, and Cristian Gordon '22 won twice this week and play great together. Thursday brought Vista Del Lago a deep and talented team, to Laguna Creek Racquet Club. They beat us badly twice last year and we were looking to see how we measured up this year. Although we lost 6-3 we made huge progress from last year and it felt like a win as the match was winding down. For starters, our best player, Chris Fong '21, matched up against Vista's #1, Ian Ng. Chris clawed and scratched his way back into the match and somehow beat a kid he had never beaten. He won (5-7, 7-5, 6-1). Chris was running down every ball Ng hit, and Ian Ng hits with power all over the court. The frustration of seeing every ball come back was too much and Chris pounced with a short 20 minute third set. It was huge momentum for the team that was down 5-0 at the time. Then came Kay Hai '20 with yet another win. The dual match ended with freshman Sean Johnson '22 locked in a battle with Senior Jack Taylor of Vista. In a two and a half hour back and forth momentum changing match, with both teams and parents cheering each shot, Sean prevailed (5-7, 6-4, 6-3). As the last ball sailed slightly long the Falcons erupted and it felt like a win and a team we wanted to see again soon.
Boys Varsity Volleyball
Varsity Volleyball suffered two big losses this week against Rio Americano (0-3) and Franklin (2-3). The team hopes to bounce back next week with action against league opponents El Camino, Vista Del Lago, and Del Campo and a Tournament at Los Medanos College.
Boys JV Volleyball
JV Boys Volleyball met up with Rio Americano last Friday and Dominated! First set 25-8 and second set 25-10. Everyone came ready to play on the bench and off the bench, it takes the whole team to win not just the athletes that are on the court. Manuel Ortega-Cano '22 had 1 Dig, Cade Berglund '21 had 1 Kill, Karsten Thomas '22 had 1 Kill and 1 Block, Tim Warford '21 had 3 Kills, Nick Edgar '22 had 1 Kill, 1 Block, 4 Digs, and 2 Aces, John Piegaro '22 had 5 Kills, 4 Digs, 3 Aces, Josh Elboom '22 had 2 Digs and 1 Ace, Ryan Rodriguez '22 had 4 Kills, 1 Block, 2 Digs, and 7 Aces! Nice job team! We then met up with Kennedy at home and unfortunately loss the match in two sets 19-25 and 21-25. We still did have some great plays. Ryan Rodriguez '22 had 1 Dig, Josh Elboom '22 had 3 Digs, John Piegaro '22 had 2 Kills, 1 Block, 3 Digs and 2 Aces, Nick Edgar '22 had 6 Digs, 4 Aces and spot on serve receive, Christian Watkins '22 had 14 Digs, Tim Warford '21 had 1 Kill, 4 Blocks, 1 Dig and 1 Ace, Liam Fischer '22 had 2 Blocks, Miguel Maestu '21 had 1 Kill and 2 Blocks, Cade Berglund '21 had 3 Kills and 3 Blocks, Karsten Thomas '22 had 1 Block. WE know what we need to do as a team to achieve our goals and moving forward will apply the communication that is necessary to be successful as a whole unit. We are excited to see El Camino next Monday at their home and Vista on Wednesday at their home as well. We always appreciate the support! Go Falcons!

We travel to Redding on Monday to participate in the Cougar Classic and defend our title. Good luck to all of our golfers!
Men’s JV Golf
The JV boys golf team played their first home and second league match this past Wednesday at Bing Maloney against visiting Rio Americano. Despite some solid holes, the team fell short 233-244. Leading the way was Freshman Kyle Krause 2022, who shot a respectable 45, sophomore Greg Parry, 2021, with a 47, and Matthew Horan ‘22, with a 49. Rounding out the team were Sophomore Joseph Solari ‘21, with a 51, Junior Gabriel Rosario ‘20, with a 52 and Matthew Lynn ‘22, with a 57.
