Cross Country
Cross Country Week of August 26.
The Cross-Country team continues to prepare for their first race of the season at the Lowell High School Invitational in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco on September 7th.
Returning and new runners put in a hard week of mileage and some lengthy speed work following a weekend of running hills at Sly Park during a weekend of training, bonding, and retreat.
The team is beginning take shape and several runners are beginning to stake claim to the coveted varsity 7 spots. The coaches are very excited about seeing what the team can do with the first competitive race of the season.
Varsity Women’s Volleyball
Women's Varsity Volleyball came into this week with two really tough matches on the schedule. On Monday the Lady Falcons took on 10th ranked Cosumnes Oaks of Elk Grove. Unfortunately we lost a heartbreaking match in 5 sets 25-15 22-25 18-25 25-23 15-8. Sydney Durana '20 and Alise Cordano '20 played tremendous defense to help sustain the athletes that Cosumnes Oaks had. Drew Deguzman '23 was thrown into her first match as a freshman on Varsity and added a spark to the team to help lead them to a 5th set.
On Wednesday the Folsom Bulldogs came to our gym with BYU commit Allie Hakes leading the way for them. The lady Falcons were able to slow her down the best they could with Dylan Deguzman '20 playing a huge role in doing that. Maggie Malarkey '21 and Maddie Hesse '21 help lead the way in beating the visiting Bulldogs in 4 sets 25-12 20-25 25-22 25-10.
Thank you to the huge turnout and student support, we appreciate you.
Huge congratulations to Sophia Overstreet '20 for taking home the inaugural Falcon of the Week award!!!
The Lady Falcons travel to Reno this weekend to play in the High Sierra Tournament!

Varsity Football
Last Friday, our Falcons took on a short-handed Burbank team and steamrolled them 64-0 with a running clock in the 2nd half. The first play on offense, Jacob Stewart ’21 connected with Sawyer Hays ’21 on a 37-yard touchdown and that’s all the Falcons needed because CB’s defense didn’t let Burbank get past midfield. Falcon Athlete of the Week, CJ Deshong ’21, added an Interception and a strip fumble recovery. Luke Jones ’20 and Bobby Horst ’21 both had 2 touchdowns. Justin Douglas ’21 led the defense with 6 tackles. Our Falcons look to carry the momentum into this week’s game vs Pleasant Grove at Sheldon HS. Come support our Falcons on Friday @ 7pm!!!
JV Football
Recap of Burbank week, off and RUNNING. The Christian Brothers JV football team won their season opener against Luther Burbank JV Football team with the score of 36 to 8. Some of the stand outs in game where Jake Elorduy ‘22, JJ Hays ‘23, Jared Wiley ‘23 on offense. On Defense, Johnny Vishja ‘23, John Marengo ‘22, and Demonte Robinson ‘22. Offense had 171 passing and 165 rushing for a total of 336. While the Defense held Burbank under 185 yards total. This was a nice way to start the season.
Women’s Golf
The turbo charged Falcons sputtered a bit against CCHS winning 229-288 Thursday at Arcade Creek. CB has been cruising along but took their lumps while still coming through. The team expects to get back to top form vs Rio on Friday, 3 pm at Bing Maloney Golf Course. Rio is a top-team, so it’s a good time to get back on track. The team works very hard and has high expectations for themselves. Look out as this determined bunch gets back in gear, the Falcons will soar!
Next week CBHS plays arch-rival Vista Del Lago, At Bing 3:30 pm on Tuesday. Also next week the CBHS Falcons play St. Francis of Mountain View at Bing Maloney at 9 am on Saturday. This is a non-league 18 hole match featuring one of the bay area’s best to come test the Falcons. Is a Holy Course brewing?
CB is ready to try to become elite and testing ourselves against some of the best will let us see where we are and we here we need to get to be top flite. Come join us on either day for some good golf and great CB ambassadorship of both school and sport.
Women’s Tennis
The Lady Falcons head into the Labor Day weekend with a perfect 4-0 record in the preseason, but it did not come easy. Fueled by a healthy dose of goldfish crackers, the girls battled to corral the Elk Grove Thundering Herd and win a 5-4 nail-biter on Thursday, August 29 at the Laguna Creek Sport Club.
Once again the girls doubles team paved the way to victory with all three teams winning their contests. Emma Frink '21 and Kennedy Gudmann '20 did not lose a game in their match, winning 6-0 and 6-0. The teams of Lily Witry '20 and Emma Emigh '21 as well as Isabella Warford '20 and Mariana Garcia '21 also won their matches handily.
In singles play, both Bianca Cabanag '21 and Tessa Easterling '22 continued their undefeated preseasons as they were in control of both of their matches, winning by the respective scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1.
The team will wrap up its preseason schedule with a match versus the Raiders of West Sacramento's River City High on Thursday, Sept. 5.
Men’s Water Polo
With the season barely off the ground, our boys opened with a scrimmage against McClatchy, Granite Bay and Rio Americano. Off to a dominant start against Granite Bay, our early heavy hitters became apparent. Our stamina began to slow in our game against Rio, and we lost that scrimmage back to back against our win. Our final game, we lost to McClatchy, our conditioning being our biggest problem. But the boys left with their heads held high, feeling strong about our victory over Granite Bay, which has typically been a tough team for CB. This week, we focused on getting the boys more in shape, while working on offensive flow and improving our shot percentages. We have selected our team captains. Leading our JV team will be Luc Tran '22, Diego Aguirre '22, and Griffin Maloy '23. And, heading our varsity squad is Sam Noonan '20, Caleb Quinn '20, and David Pearson '20. Things are looking strong for the Falcons!
Women’s Water Polo
The girls this season are off to an extremely strong start. With the foundations beginning to be set, we have some early stars in the pool. The girls have some time before we need to test our skills against other teams, so in that time, we will be developing strong foundations and hammering home fundamentals. We also have picked our captains on the girls side. Heading the JV group, we have Simone Gandy '21 and Carolyn Kauss '23. And taking the lead on varsity we have Emma Busch '20, McKenna Purdy '20 and Abby Kauss '20. Congratulations to these lady Falcons for showing such dedication to the program and helping with its continued success. Looking forward to a strong season with these girls.
