Swim
The CB swim team has had a busy week with two days of competition; first Jesuit and Saint Francis on Tuesday and then Vista Del Lago on Thursday. CB swimmers did a great job of showing determination and grit against the Marauders and Troubadours. While their teams were twice the size, our top swimmers were able to get some great racing opportunities. Luc Tran ’22 won the 200 freestyle for the JV boys, and Aly Roberts ’19 placed second for the Varsity girls in the same event. For the sprint races, Liza Mikacich ’22 won the 50 free for the JV girls, while Sam Noonan ’20 and Thomas Piper ’21 placed first and second respectively, for Varsity boys. For the 100 free, freshmen Abby Fox ’22 placed first for Varsity girls. In the distance events, freshmen girls Brooke Brandenburger ’22 and Madison Flewellyn ’22 placed first and second for the 500 free. CB finished the meet out strong with Karina Elliott ’22 placing first in the 100 breast stroke for JV girls and Colin Quinn ’20 placing second for Varsity boys. As for Vista Del Lago, the Varsity boys put up a strong fight with a win, 91 to 56, while the Varsity girls fell short with 56pts to Vista’s 128pts. The Falcons only have two more dual meets before our league championships right before spring break.
Freshman Baseball
The Freshman Baseball team won two out three games played last week. They beat Del Oro (7-6) and Rocklin HS (9-3). Ramon Ruiz ‘22 had a late game-winning hit against Del Oro and Jake Tandy ‘22 pitched a gem against Rocklin High School. The Falcons look to start league play next Tuesday at Case Roble 4pm.
Varsity Baseball
Coming off a big win against Winters High School, the #8 ranked baseball team in the area, the #12 ranked Christian Brothers Falcons Varsity Baseball opened up league play against Sacramento High School.
CB defeated Sac High17-0 on Tuesday, as two pitchers teamed up to throw a no-hitter. Larson Dana started on the bump and dealt CB to victory. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out seven. Cooper Williams threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Cooper Williams induced a week fly out to get the last out of the game.
The team secured the victory thanks to 10 runs in the first inning. Kevin Rios ‘19, Graeme Farrell ‘19, Riley Shaw ‘20, Sam Copley ‘19, Max Martinez ‘20, and Jordan Gonzales ‘19 all drove in runs in the frame.
The Falcons got things started in the first inning when Rios singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs. It went quite well for CB as the first inning progressed. Following two runs in the second inning and another five spot in the third, CB stayed classy and downshifted into station-to-station mode.
CB tallied 13 hits. Gonzales, Lars Jensen ‘20, Farrell, and Rios all had multiple hits; Gonzales went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. CB didn't commit a single error in the field. Gonzales had the most chances in the field with seven, as the Falcon’s catcher.
The second game in the series saw more action at the plate and on the scoreboard. CB clinched the series with a 20-1 win. Every starter got on base and everyone scored at least one run. Garrett Sadler got the nod and went four strong innings, only surrendering one run. Cooper Laffan ‘19 made his appearance count with a solid fifth inning, whiffing two Sac batters to end the game. Reed Mercer ‘20 continued to hit the ball hard, enjoying another multi-hit game. Not to be outdone, Lars Jensen had another strong showing at the plate too, blasting a moon shot to deep right center in the latter part of the game.
The Falcons pitchers continued their magic, with a team ERA a tick over 1.00
CB looks to sweep the three game series against Sac High today at 4:00PM. It’s a home game, so come cheer on these amazing falcons as they look to improve to 6-0 for their 2019 baseball campaign.
Go Falcons. Falcons First!!
Women’s Lacrosse
Varsity lacrosse arrived at their game with just 12 players, the exact number needed to play. Despite having no subs the team hustled the entire game through 2 overtime period and unfortunately lost the Clayton Valley 7-8. Officials, fans, and opposing coaching commented on the teams stamina and effort through the whole game. Initially the team was down 1-4 and ended the half at 3-4. Eventually after Marissa Galvez ‘20, scored her first Goal on varsity and a goalie interception by Annabelle Horan ‘21 which turned into an assist to Ashlinn Phipps ‘19, the team went up by 1. Clayton Valley ties the game at 7-7 with 3 minutes left. After the game ended in a tie, the Falcons pushed through overtime period one until Clayton Valley scored early in second overtime period. A valiant effort came from the defensive unit who worked together continually doubling the ball as well as Megan Cann ‘22, who played center the whole game and scored 4 goals. Ashlinn Phipps ‘19 continually helped with ball handing and 2 goals. Ari Castillo ‘19 scored and helped to win numerous draws. The team is anxious to play Vista Del Lago Friday in a rematch of last week’s game.
Women’s JV Lacrosse
Beat Clayton Valley 6-5. Initially the team was down 1-4 and worked together to win the game just before it ended. Ava Dominguez ‘22 scored two goals, Julia Brousseau ‘22 and Alyssa Langford-Cooley ‘22 scored their first ever goals. Other goals scored by Brooke Koenig ‘22 and Elise Newton ‘22. It was a fantastic team effort.

Men’s Lacrosse
Men’s lacrosse played their home opener Tuesday against Lincoln of Stockton. It was a fast and physical game, nearly going into overtime. The Falcons came up just short, falling 10-9 to Lincoln. Sam Ketcher ’22 and Rowen Antony ’22 each scored three goals, while Kelliah Tarver ’19, Matt Solari ’21 and Tyler Valerio ’21 each scored one. Our defensive front continues to improve with Jackson Schlink ’22, James Kubish ’22 and Grant Prevost ’22 each being formidable obstacles to the Lincoln offense. The team will get a chance to avenge the loss on Friday April 5th in Stockton. The Falcons gets a break from games next week, before facing a rematch of a tough Davis team on April 1st.
Rugby
Last Saturday, the Christian Brothers Men’s rugby team took on Silicon Valley Rugby Club for a league match in San Jose. Unfortunately the boys suffered a devastating loss with a score of 73-15 with tries from Aidan O’Malley ‘19, Calvin Fiske ‘20, and Xavier Metcalf ‘21 who had the first Varsity try of his career. Fiske was awarded captain of the forwards and Metcalf was the captain of the backs. The boys played a better game in the second half but couldn’t pull through with the win. On Tuesday the team took on a traveling squad University of Saint Louis High School, Missouri at home. The stand out player of this game was Jared Hunter ‘21 who scored 3 tries. He was also awarded captain and was given a University of Saint Louis High School practice jersey for his amazing performance. The boys started out slow in the first half, but had a close second half keeping them to only one try. Unfortunately they still lost 44-17, but they are hoping to keep their positive attitude for playoffs. The rugby team will be hoping to come together for a win this weekend against Bellarmine Prep at home. This will be their final game before playoffs so make sure to show up to support the boys at 10:30am on Saturday.
Varsity Softball
The Falcons were able to navigate the rain this week and earn two wins bringing their overall record to 5-2-1. On Monday, March 18, the Falcons played a non-league contest against visiting Manteca. The Falcons bats came alive scoring 8 runs on 11 hits. Seniors Giana Hays went 3/4, Jessica Hennelly 2/4 and Karina Brouwer 2/3. Freshman Marissa Elders pitched a solid game with 5 strikeouts and 8 shutout innings. The Falcons played excellent defense making only 1 error.
This week’s second home non-league win 7-6 was Thursday against Ponderosa. The Falcons jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on the strong hitting of Giana Hays ’19 who went 3/3 with a double, single and a solo HR to deep center field. Cece Sidley ’19 returned to the lineup to pitch a strong game with 5 strikeouts after missing several games with severe flu symptoms.

JV Softball
March 12th – The weather has cleared and the JV softball team was finally able to play in their first game of the season, an away game vs Pleasant Grove. For some, it was their first experience playing in a softball game. Keeping the game close through 5 innings was pitcher Anjalina (AJ) Dahdouh ’22 who only gave up 3 hits and recorded 8 strikeouts. Emma Wood ’20 provided some nice defense at third base. With the month’s long rainouts, a bit of rust set in for our hitting, only managing 1 hit from Kylie Nelson ’22. A combination of small mental mistakes and untimely hitting was too much to overcome Pleasant Grove’s experienced team, losing 0-6. The Lady Falcons should be proud of their efforts competing against a strong PG team who hasn’t lost since 2017. We’ll be looking to avenge this defeat in a rematch game on April 2nd. Record 0-1
March 13th – With little time to stew about the loss to Pleasant Grove, our Lady Falcons were off to visit Pioneer. This was a back and forth battle with neither team wanting to give in to the other. There were plenty of opportunities for our team to score runs, having loaded the bases a few innings. Credit to Pioneer’s defense for making a few spectacular game saving plays which kept the game from breaking open. In the end, Pioneer beats CB 4-3 on a walk off hit in the bottom of the 7th. Pitcher AJ Dahdouh ’22 had another successful outing throwing all 7 innings. She recorded 10 strikeouts in the loss. Defensively these young Lady Falcons are learning quickly on the field. Centerfielder Julia Mamea’22 on a deep fly ball, made a leaping grab to keep the game close. Second baseman Yvette Castellanos ’22 had a lot of action recording multiple putouts. Key hitters for the game: Abby Kauss ’20 2x4, AJ Dahdouh ’22 2x3 2 runs, Kylie Nelson ’22 Double & 2 intentional walks, Yvette Castellanos ’22 2x4, Emma Wood ’20 2x4. With 5 more games to finish this week off, the Lady Falcons work towards getting their first win of the season in the upcoming Inderkum Tournament. Record 0-2
March 15th – First game of the Inderkum Tournament playing Armijo. Bringing back memories from her younger days, Kylie Nelson ‘22 got a break from behind the plate to pitch in her first high school game. Armijo’s experience was too much for our Lady Falcons to keep up with taking the win 13-6. Key hitters: AJ Dahdouh ’22 2x4 2 doubles, Abby Kauss ’20 2x4 double, Kylie Nelson ‘22 3x3 HR 2 Runs, Jenna Puumala ’22 2x4. Record 0-3
Next up for the 2nd game of the tournament was Kennedy. Starting pitcher Lilianna Sanchez ’22, pitching in her first game of the year was able to pick up our first win of the season. A barrage of hitting, specifically a 12 run 3rd inning was too much for Kennedy to overcome. Final score was 18-6. Key hitters: AJ Dahdouh ’22 3x4 Triple 3 Runs, Abby Kauss ’20 4x4 Triple 3 Runs, Kylie Nelson ’22 3x3 Triple 3 Runs, Emma Wood ’20 2x3 3 Runs, Julia Mamea ’22 3x4 HR Triple 3 Runs, Lilianna Sanchez ’22 2x3. Record 1-3
The next day took us into our first league game of the season vs Vista Del Lago. Our Lady Falcons proved to be fierce and ready to play against a team that the JV softball has never beat. Starting pitcher AJ Dahdouh ’22 was ready for the challenge recording 7 strikeouts, allowed only 3 hits, and kept the Vista hitters guessing at the plate. The game was close through 3 innings before CB took the lead with a 4 run 4th inning and an 8 run 5th inning. A well-earned victory was theirs with a final score of 13-1. Key hitters: AJ Dahdouh ’22 2x4 2 Runs, Yvette Castellanos ’22 2x3 Double 3 Runs, Kylie Nelson ’22 3x4 HR, Emma Wood ’20 3x4, Bianca Flores ’22 2x3 HR, Stephanie Tapang ‘20 2 Runs. Record 2-3, League 1-0
The 2nd game of the day had us facing River City. It was a battle until the end with both teams displaying their hitting capabilities. Pitcher Lilianna Sanchez ’22 provided just enough fire power to secure the victory for her team. Final Score 17-13. Key hitters: AJ Dahdouh ’22 3x3 3 Runs, Julia Mamea ’22 3x4 2 Triples 2 Runs, Abby Kauss ’20 3x4 3 Runs, Kylie Nelson ’22 4x4 Double 2 Runs, Bianca Flores ’22 2 Runs, Lilianna Sanchez ’22 2x3 Double 3 Runs, Jenna Puumala ’22 2x3. Record 3-3, League 1-0
Last game of the Inderkum Tournament and 5th game in two days had us matched up against the host team Inderkum High. Fatigue had definitely set in. Another back and forth battle, unfortunately our Lady Falcons were on the losing end of this game. Pitcher AJ Dahdouh ’22 pitching on short rest provided 11 strikeouts in keeping the game close. Inderkum takes the victory beating CB 8-6. Key hitters: AJ Dahdouh ’22 2 Runs, Yvette Castellanos ’22 2x4, Kylie Nelson ’22 2x2. Record 3-4, League 1-0
March 18th – Lady Falcons softball back at it for a non-league home game vs Manteca. The game started off slow defensively but these girls dug deep and their bats woke up. Key hitters: AJ Dahdouh ’22 2x3 Triple 3 Runs, Yvette Castellanos ’22 2x2 Double 3 Runs, Kylie Nelson ’22 2x4, Abby Kauss ’20 2x4 Triple, Emma Wood ’20 Double. Record 4-4, League 1-0
March 21st – Lady Falcons had a home game with a strong Ponderosa team. Again, the team started off sluggish and slow allowing Pondo to jump to a quick 4-0 lead. CB was able to score 1 run and keep the game close. Pitcher AJ Dahdouh ’22 pitched phenomenally recording 14 strikeouts. In the end, allowing Pondo to score 6 unearned runs was too much for CB to overcome. Pondo wins 7-1. Key hitters: AJ Dahdouh ’22 2x4 Double, Kylie Nelson ’22 3x3 Double Triple. Record 4-5, League 1-0
Men’s Tennis

Boys Varsity Volleyball
Varsity Volleyball continued league action this week with matches against El Camino and Vista Del Lago. Falcons took on the Eagles at El Camino in a heated match but couldn’t pull out the win, taking El Camino to 4 (25-22, 16-25, 14-25,16-25). Jack Milliken ’19 lead his team with 7 kills, while Nathan Hatch ’21 brought his passing game, contributing 17 service receptions and 5 digs.
