On Wednesday the Falcons squared off with the #7 in the Sacramento Rio Americano and one of the top contenders in league. In an intense battle the Falcons were able to pull off a 4 set victory. All sets were extremely close with the 4th set being one the Falcons hope to build off. Down 19-23 the Falcons were able to claw back and win the set 25-23 to close out the match. Junior Varsity Women’s Volleyball
JV Women's Volleyball had a very busy week! We began the week with Capital Christian. Our team started out slow, but were able to come together and take the win in two sets. Next, we faced league-rival Rio americano at home on Wednesday and took the first set right away (25-16). We had to battle for the second set, but did took the win 25-23. On Thursday, we traveled to Tracy. After a long drive, the girls came out a little slow. We lost the first set 24-26. We then regrouped and came back together and took the second set 25-16. The girls stayed strong in the third set and came away with the win 15-11! The team has come so far on their mental game, and it has improved immensely. We are very proud of this team and can't wait to see the continued growth!
Freshman Women’s Volleyball
This week your Freshmen Falcons competed in their first official league match against Rio Americano. The Falcons worked strategically to accomplish their goals for the match and fostered a victory with scores of 25-11 and 25-10. Christian Brothers traveled to Tracy the following day for great competition. Not knowing much about the Bulldogs, the Falcons focused on their level of play, communication and executing as best they could. Tracy was a strong team and fought with Christian Brothers for a long 3 set match. With lots of energy and excitement the Freshmen Falcons closed out a jump-out-of-your-seat game with scores of 25-19, 17-25 and 15-13.
Varsity Football
The Christian Brothers varsity football team had a nice bounce back win last Saturday, defeating Vanden 34-28. The Falcons were coming off a tough loss the previous week, so it was a good win to get them back on track before Holy Bowl. Quarterback Jacob Stewart ‘21 went 19-25 passing for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also contributing a rushing touchdown. Luke Jones ‘20 also scored two touchdowns, one receiving and one rushing. John Michael Berger ‘21 caught his first touchdown of the season, and finished the game as the top receiver with 89 yards. Defensively, Justin Douglas ‘21 led the way with 10 tackles, including 4 tackles for loss. Reed Mercer ‘20 and Sawyer Hays ‘21 also had sacks. The defense was able to get consistent pressure throughout the game, finishing with 13 tackles for loss as a team.
The game started off well for the Falcons, scoring the first touchdown on a Luke Jones 7 yard rush. Vanden then answered back, intercepting Stewart and returning it for a touchdown. Vanden got another touchdown off another CB turnover, making it 14-7. Running back Justin Douglas punched one in at the end of the first quarter, making it 14-13 as the PAT was missed. The score remained 14-13 for the remainder of the first half.
Christian Brothers came out strong to start the second half, scoring on their first two possessions. John Michael Berger ‘21 caught a 65 yard touchdown pass and then Luke Jones followed with a 25 yard TD catch. CB added another touchdown to make it 34-14 at the end of the third. Vanden fought back late, scoring a pair of touchdowns to make it 34-28, but the Falcon defense was able to get a stop late on Luke Jones’ first interception of the season, ending the Vikings’ comeback attempt.
The Falcons (2-1) will look to keep their momentum going when they take on rival Jesuit in the Holy Bowl next week. Jesuit comes into the game 0-2, having lost to powerhouse Folsom and Granite Bay. The game will be at 7:00 pm on Saturday, September 14th at Sacramento City College.
JV Football

Women’s Golf
The Falcons took on one of Nor-Cal’s best in St. Francis of Mountain View. It was a day to gather two catholic schools with similar missions, good student-athletes, and families. In an 8 on 8 shootout format CBHS edged SFMVHS 710 t0 715. This will become a home and home match played on the weekend each year. CBHS played exactly how we’d expect with scores tightly bunched. There is room to improve and our best is still ahead but the direction is very promising. The Falcons and Lancers enjoyed prayer, golf, and a meal on Saturday. Thanks to May Esquivel and many team parents for the support. Coaches Rob Boriskin and Johnny Yee were very important and impressed with the days’ play and effort all around. CBHS battles Sacramento High School and Del Campo this week all in preparation for the CAL#1 Tournament on Monday the 16th @ Teal Bend GC. This is an all-day match that closes the first half of play, the team wants to hold on to its current 2nd place standing with more good golf ahead.
Go get ‘em Falcons!
The Falcons played the Sacramento High Dragons on Tuesday. The Falcons won 163-285 on the par 29 Bing Maloney “Executive 9”. Other very good scores were; Carina singer ’20 (32), Alison Oliviera ’22 (31), Bella Esquivel ’21 (33), Kathryn Maebori ’20 (32) and Brie Briggs’23 with a sharp 35. This was a good score on a short course where our short game skills were tested. Nice going, next up the Cougars of Del Campo HS @ Haggin Oaks- 3:00 pm on Thursday.
Keep going strong Falcons!
Capping off a great week the Falcons took on the Cougars of Del Campo. CBHS very sporty 188 defeated the Cougars 303 at Haggin Oaks. All scores were 40 or better with the highlight being Bella Esquivel’s first ever under par round of 35! This was another short course victory where the short game and shot quality is demanded. Next up is the CAL #1 Tournament at Teal Bend on Monday. An 8:30 am shotgun start will feature the entire CAL league competing. This should be another great test for the hot Falcons!
Women’s Tennis
When you can rescue Sherlock Holmes and beat a powerful secret society - winning a tennis match is no big deal. After a weekend of team-building at an escape room, the Lady Falcons banded together and got off to a fast start to tame the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack, 6-3, on Wednesday to wrap up a perfect preseason.
The doubles teams led the way as the girls once again swept their three matches. Isabella Warford '20 and Lena Mikacich '22 won 6-1, 6-4, while juniors Sophia Sidley '21 and Mariana Garcia '21 prevailed 6-1, 6-3. Seniors Isabella Ledesma '20 and Lily Witry '20 closed out the sweep with 6-3, 6-2 victory.
On the singles side, Bianca Cabanag '21 played as the top-seed for the first time this year and showed why she was recently named the Falcon Athlete of the Week, After falling behind quickly 2-6, she rallied to win 6-2 and 10-6 in the tiebreaker to remain unbeaten this year. Lola Jan '21 also battled through a tiebreaker in the first set before closing things out 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 and Emma Frink '21 swept her way to a 6-1, 6-1 win. A big thanks to Lola's mom, who aced the snacks with chips, guacamole, salsa, hummus and cauliflower - a recipe for success!
Finally, the exhibition team is starting to show its stuff, with Helena Batturaro '21 and Elizabeth Stevens '21 winning 6-1 and 6-4.
Next up, the Lady Falcons will head up the hill for their season opener as they get set to battle Vista Del Lago in Folsom on Thursday, Sept. 26.
