Falcon’s Sports News
Quote of the day:
“ Too many kids have been taught that the goal of HS sports is to achieve an ATHLETIC scholarship. Here is the truth- the goal of HS sports is to learn how to be a better person, better teammate, better communicator, & to enjoy being a teenager…something you can’t get back.”

Varsity Women’s Volleyball
Women's Volleyball came into this week after a very successful weekend in Reno competing at the High Sierra Tournament. The Lady Falcons went 6-1 on the weekend finishing in 5th place. Some of their big wins came against Whitney who they lost to previously in the season and also beating one of the top teams in Reno, Damonte Ranch. It was a great tournament for these ladies as they were able to bond and build cohesiveness to build on for the remainder of the season.
On Tuesday the Lady Falcons hosted Holy Court. This match is the match everyone looks forward to. The large crowds, cheers and competitive chants from each student section is definitely something that makes the atmosphere electric. Unfortunately our Lady Falcons came out on the losing end but they didn't go down without a fight. Led by Whitney Hunt '20 and Sydney Durana '20 the Falcons were able to keep it close each set but just couldn't get over the hump in winning and dropped the match in straight sets. Thank you to everyone who came out to support.
On Wednesday Christian Brothers hosted El Dorado. The Lady Falcons came out really slow and sluggish barely winning the first set 26-24. Whitney Hunt '20, Sydney Duran '20 and Lily Patock brought the girls together and demanded they bring more energy. The energy came out and the girls were having fun which led to 2 dominate set wins.
Currently our Varsity team is ranked 5th in Sacramento by the Sac Bee.
Overall 8-4 League 0-0
Junior Varsity Women’s Volleyball
Christian Brother's Women's JV Volleyball met up with it's rival St. Francis on Monday. What an intense match and all the athletes did an amazing job of keeping their composure and fighting for the win. We took St. Francis to 3 but in the end they did take the win, 19-26, 25-16, 11-15. Alexis Adebodun '22 had 1 kill, 2 aces, and 1 block, Brooke Benetti '22 had 3 kills and 5 digs, Chloe Williams '22 had 5 kills and 1 block, Danny Thiebaud '23 had 1 kill, Grace Reinhardt '23 had 1 kill, HIllary Chu '22 had 5 digs. It was a tough fight and I can't be happier as a coach as this is my first year in 4 years of coaching that our CB Lady Falcons took St. Francis to 3 sets! We then followed up the following day at home against El Dorado, as the whole team was mentally spent from the match vs St. Francis the night before this was a great test to work on their mental game as athletes! Our first set started off slow and we had to take a couple time outs to reset our mental game and pulled through with the win 25-20 and then carried that momentum on to the second set where the team dominated for a win, 25-10. We are looking forward to some rest this weekend and starting league against Capital Christian on Monday at Capital. We Always love the support!
Freshman Women’s Volleyball
The Freshman volleyball team had an exciting week. They competed in their first Holy Court on Tuesday and had their final preseason match the following day. Although the outcome of Holy Court (12-25, 20-25) isn’t what the athletes wanted, they still held their heads high and represented Christian Brothers with poise and great sportsmanship. Their match against El Dorado went in favor of the Falcons, with scores of 25-16 and 25-17. The positivity these young ladies had for each other after playing in front of large crowds was remarkable. This team begins league next Wednesday at home against Rio Americano.
Varsity Football
The Christian Brothers varsity football team lost a tough game to Pleasant Grove Eagles on Friday by a score of 56-12. In a well-played match the CBHS Falcons downed the Rio Raiders, 215-219. This makes CB 3-0 with Vista Del Lago next on the 3rd. The Juniors carried the day with Anna Horan ’21 shooting 40 from the #2 position and Bella Esquivel turning in an eye-popping 41 from the #6 spot. Annabelle and Bella were outstanding, way to go!
Women’s Tennis
The Lady Falcons overcame the toughest fight of the year, and some early raindrops, to escape the River City High Raiders and improve to 5-0 in the preseason.
The first matches set the tone for how tough the day would be, but the team rallied to get singles victories from juniors Ai-Linh Tran '21 and Lola Jan '21, as well as a doubles win from Isabella Warford '20 and Lena Mikacich '22.
The Falcons and Raiders were so closely matched that four contests went into a third set match tiebreaker, including top-seeded Fiona Babcock '21, who battled through one of the day's longest and most grueling matches before ultimately falling 6-4, 5-7, 7-10.
With the team trailing 3-4, Tessa Easterling '22 gave the team hope by controlling her match 6-1, 6-1 bringing the team score to 4 matches a piece - and Bianca Cabanag '21 battled in a hard-fought victory 6-3, 4-6, and 10-5 securing the final point for her team keeping their perfect preseason intact. Both girls remain unbeaten so far this year.
Next up, the Lady Falcons will finish the preseason facing off against Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack on Sept. 11.
