Last night the Women’s Soccer team played their 2nd round playoff game at home against #8 Beyer (14-2). The Beyer Patriots came into the game having finished first place in the Western Athletic Conference along with their phenomenal goal scorers’ seniors Ashlee Leonetti (24 goals) and Isabella Rodriguez (31 goals) who contributed more than half of their 98 goals scored for the season. From a statistical standpoint this would be no easy matchup. Your Lady Falcons were pumped and ready for the challenge. The Falcons used possession and speed to wear down the Beyer defense. The offense was sparked by Lily Jensen (’23) who scored the night’s first goal, getting into open space on a beautiful assist from Bailey Rakela (’25). Much of the first half was physical with a few calls going in our favor, understandably to the dissatisfaction of the Beyer fans in attendance. One of these calls was a penalty in the box against Brooklyn Horst (’23) who was tripped up after making a move around the opposing left defender. Horst (’23) confidently eyed down the goalie and finished the penalty kick. Halftime score 2-0. Knowing the Patriots would not surrender, the Lady Falcons continued their quick pace in the 2nd half with an emphasis on short and simple. A minute into the half and the CB midfielders in total domination, Elizabeth Ledesma (’23) was able to weave her way down the middle of the field, shooting a banger off the hands of the goalie and into the back of the net. Down 3-0, Beyer’s hopes and dreams were quickly coming to an end. Jensen (’23) looking like a track star out on the pitch, sprinted her way in to open field, cutting back in towards the middle and finishing on a beautiful goal past the diving hands of the opposing goalie. The CB defense of Emily Mayes (’23), Kamryn Lee (’24), Caitlynn Drew (’23), Lauren Reefer (’23), and goalie Grace Bettencourt (’23) locked down any offensive threat from the Patriots. To cap off an incredible night, Jensen (’23) was able to add another goal for the hat trick on Rakela’s (’25) second assist. It was a great all-around team effort. Next game is at home tomorrow, February 17 at 6:00 PM vs #4 Oakdale (17-1-2). Come out and support your Lady Falcons in their quest to make it to the Section Finals.
