After a tough week of school, the Falcons traveled to Sacramento High on Friday evening to play the Dragons for their second playoff game. The previous 2 times these two teams played the Dragons won by 7 points each time, so the Falcons were hungry to finally get a win against them, especially in the playoffs. Although the Falcons fell behind first, they challenged the Dragons early as this one looked to be another good matchup between both teams as the score was 14-10 Dragons. Poor passing and a struggle to finish around the rim in the 2nd quarter plagued the Falcons early on, but they were able to play good defense and go on a run with a minute left to make it 23-22 as the Dragons still led going into halftime. A bucket duel ensued in the 3rd quarter as both teams went on a scoring run, but the Dragons defense propelled them ahead 46-36 as things were looking grim for the Falcons going into the 4th.
If the Falcons wanted to keep their season alive they were going to have to play some of the best basketball they’ve played all season. That is exactly what they did. The Falcons came out with intensity as they went on a run to tie up the game after trailing by 10 points and later lead, but the Dragons were not giving up easily. After a controversial decision to give the Dragons a timeout that was seemingly never called with 1 second left as the game was tied at 57-57, the Dragons inbounded the ball but failed to get the ball to roll into the basket as this one went into overtime. This was the 1st game of the season that went into overtime for the Falcons and they were ready to empty the tank. Even though they started off slow, the Falcons were steadily competing. With 8.7 seconds left it was 65-62 Dragons. The Falcons needed a 3 pointer to tie the game back up. The Falcons inbounded the ball but didn’t get a clean look so they settled for a contested 3 point shot and the ball couldn’t find its way into the basket as time ran out. After an amazing game and performance by the Falcons, they sadly could not take this one home as the final score after overtime was 65-62. The Falcons ended their season at an even 15-15 record. The Falcons will build on the triumphs of this season as they look to have a better season next year. Good job on the season Falcons!
