The Christian Brothers basketball team heads into the 2019-2020 season looking for improvement. Last season, they finished 6-21 overall and 2-10 in league, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2011-2012. The team returns six players from last season, including their top three scorers, Ryan Toschi ‘20, Michael Moreno ‘21 and Angelo Butler ‘20. Toschi led the team with 11.0 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. Moreno averaged 8.3 ppg and Butler averaged 8.2 ppg.
The Falcons also hired new coach Al Seyford in the offseason. Seyford got the head coaching job after years of assistant coaching at Christian Brothers. Prior to his career at CB, he was an advanced scout for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also coached at Sierra College, as well as Kennedy, Sheldon and Jesuit High Schools.
The Falcons face a tough Capital Athletic League schedule, with multiple teams in the SacBee’s Sac Joaquin Section top 20 rankings. Capital Christian comes in at number 3 in the section, while Sac High (9) and Del Campo (20) also cracked the list. Rival Jesuit comes in at number 5 in the rankings.
The Falcons tip off their season on Friday, November 22nd when they host Valley High School. The game will be at at 7:00 pm.
