This past Monday the Men's Varsity Golf team faced off in their first CAL tournament of the year. The team knew what was at stake due to a recent loss against Rio Americano. As the clouds rolled in doubt raced through the players' and coaches' mind that a dry day was ahead. The team performed well on the front nine, with three players shooting under 40. It was a new best for team with a combined score of 199. However, the controversy began on the back nine. Rain had been falling all day without any issue. However, thunder followed by a strike of lighting sent the tournament into a 30 minute rain delay. Jack Taylor ('24) had gone out in the first group and was able to card a great round of 74 (+3). Closely followed by Joshua Ryan ('23), Matt Horan('22) and Jacob Gouker('24) who looked to all have rounds finishing in the 70s. The Tournament Direrctor made one of the most controversial rulings at the end of the 30 minute delay. Although, the thunder ceased and all of the balls on course were properly marked the tournament was called. What looked to be one of the best days for the team in the past years, must wait another month for a reschedule date to resume the tournament. The boys will keep there heads high and return stronger then ever.
