Last night, the women’s varsity soccer team took on the Rio Americano Raiders in a tough league game matchup on a very cold and icy day. The Falcons played hard throughout the 1st half, dominating posession but breaking with a 0-0 tie. The defensive back line led by Emily Mayes ('23), Brooklyn Horst ('23), Caitlynn Drew ('23), and Kamryn Lee ('24) were up to the challenge holding Rio scoreless up to the half. At the 2nd half kickoff, the Lady Falcons turned up the intensity and play was much more physical. CB was able to take the lead on a beautiful corner kick goal from Elizabeth Ledesma ('23) who curved the ball directly in to the net. The CB girls continued their dominance spending most of the half on the Rio Raiders side, but with no luck to add to the lead. With 6 minutes left in the match, unfortunately Rio's leading goal scorer senior Olivia Loomis was able to get behind our defense and around the goalie for a tap in empty netter, ending the game in a 1-1 tie. Our Lady Falcons will look towards the rematch in a couple of weeks. The women’s varsity soccer team did amazing and played a hard-fought game against the Rio Americano Raiders. Your 9-3-2 Lady Falcons hold on to first place in league and play next Tuesday at home vs. Del Campo.
