This past Friday, our Falcons played against Vista Del Lago in one of the most emotional games, not only in this season but in Christian Brothers history. It was back and forth throughout the game, with both teams fighting hard all the way until the end.
The offense was steady throughout the game, but on the second drive of the game we fumbled and gave Vista the ball on the 50 yard line. This proved to be a crucial possession that impacted the results of the game in the long run. However, other than that, the offense was fueled by a good balance of passing and running. They often found themselves scoring rapidly.
The defense struggled tonight, allowing Vista to put up 45 points. The bulk of their success came on the ground, with their running back having 34 carries for 250 rushing yards. This is a reoccurring theme for the Falcons defense that has the potential to tighten up, but must do so quickly with playoffs around the corner.
Going into the Falcons final drive, the Eagles were leading 45-40 with about 1 minute and 30 seconds left to go in the game. After a shaky first 3 plays, CB converted on a 4th and 8 to extend the drive. With time ticking, another pass was completed, advancing the Falcons to another 1st down. After a controversial no call in the endzone and a pass interference call on the next play, the Falcons were on the 13 yard line with 25 seconds left. What ended up being the final play of the game, was a pass completed to tight end Mason Vicari('24). Mason was unable to hold onto the ball, as he was knocked unconscious on his way to the endzone. After that play, Vicari layed on the turf, unresponsive and in need of immediate medical attention. As the medical team was rushing to his aid, the stadium fell silent. A silence that spoke very loudly, and had many players, students, and parents in complete shock and sadness. Mason was escorted out on a stretcher by the medical staff after being unconscious for 20 minutes. He was rushed to the hospital for further testing. The game was called with 20 seconds left, and both teams gathered in prayer at the middle of the field. We are happy to inform you that Mason was able to leave the hospital the next morning with a grade 5 concussion. We are hopeful that he will make a full recovery. We love you Mason!
After this emotional game, CB gears up to play at Del Campo in their final regular season game. Go Falcons!
