Falcon’s Sports News
Quote of the day:
“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.“

Junior Varsity Women’s Volleyball
JV Women's Volleyball has sadly completed their season on Wednesday. The ladies had two great matches at home against Del Campo who they defeated in 2 and Sac High who they also defeated in two. These ladies had such an amazing season and I am so proud of how much they have grown as individual athletes and as a overall team! They had many adjustments they had to endure this season, and different positions and roles where needed to be filled and all of them came together as one to overcome all the changes and be a successful unit! We are so excited to see them continue to grow in there volleyball career in club and cannot wait for next season! We are looking forward to hosting and supporting Varsity in playoffs and excited to see them on Tuesday at home. Our overall record is 15-6 and our league record is 10-2.

The Falcons scored a touchdown early in the third quarter to take a 21-6 lead, but Vista came storming back. They scored two unanswered touchdowns and converted a two point conversion to tie the score at 21 entering the fourth quarter. The Falcons scored early in the fourth to take a 28-21 lead with about 9 minutes remaining. The Eagles scored with about three minutes remaining, but missed the extra point. With Christian Brothers needing just a couple first downs to run out the clock, they fumbled on their own 10 yard line, giving the ball back to the Eagles with a chance to win the game. The Eagles drove for the remainder of the game before finally converting with 4 seconds left in the game.
The loss moves the Falcons to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in league, while also taking them out of league championship contention. They have two games left on their regular season schedule, at Del Campo and vs Sacramento High School, before the playoffs start. Next up for Christian Brothers is at Del Campo. Women’s Golf
The end of championship seasons are abrupt, they are clear and they end with some emotion. Our Falcons are the classiest, close-knit and best representatives of what golf embodies in a sport for a lifetime I can think of. Be very proud!
The coaches and I are so proud of our parents, players, and supporters for this season. We knew we were on a very tough golf course (the Ridge GC 71.5, 130), we knew we were in for a very long day (6+ hours of play), we knew we were one of the top teams and we knew we had to play very well to move on. We were prepared, we were aware and we went out to do our best. There were 26 teams represented in both team and individual play, this is the largest divisional event in Nor-Cal. We came in fourth place in the team competition behind Oakdale (1st VOL) @ 408, Vista Del Lago (1st CAL) @ 433, East Union (2nd VOL) 2 450, CBHS (2nd CAL) @ 465. These two leagues are the dominant force on DIII women’s golf for the SJS section. On that note the Falcons can hold their heads high.
I am grateful to all the players involved with CB’s golf, our future is bright, there is work ahead to do to transition to the very top level. We are capable of making that leap and stepping up our game.
If you see one of the players congratulate them, they are respected across golf in the section and they consistently do CB proud. Luv ya’ Falcons
Men’s Water Polo
The boys this week participated in CAL League Championships coming in as the second seed behind archrival Rio Americano. The Falcons has been preparing to get a good fight against one of the most successful teams that Rio has had in a few years. The first game, the boys completely controlled the tempo of play, handling the game 16-3 against El Camino. Showing pace and strength, the boys were ready for the Championship final. Against Rio, the boys allowed the first quarter to dig them into a hole 0-4 in the first. After some words with the starters and a little change of perspective, the falcons attacked the second and third quarters with ferocity. In the end, the boys had an 8-12 loss to Rio Americano for the championship final. One thing to note, in that loss was that CB finished the last 3 quarters 8-8. Tough loss for one of our strongest boys teams that we've had in a while. The boys are now preparing for sections, where we are looking to close another section title, this tome as D-II. Good luck to our Falcons!
Women’s Water Polo
This week has been quite an exciting week for our varsity women's water polo team. The girls faced Mira Loma, Rio Americano and El Camino for our CAL League Championships. Our first game, the girls played comfortably and collected, and established dominance early on. They stayed ahead for the whole game and won 10-4 against Mira Loma, knocking them out of the tournament. Next, we saw Rio Americano, who was the number 1 seed for this tournament. And for good reason. The Rio girls played a strong, clean game and CB met them with intensity, but couldn't put away the win. The final from the second round was a 4-11 loss to Rio Americano, putting the girls in the running for second place. Our last game of the championship was against season-long rival El Camino. The girls began the game strong, putting two away early and staying connected on defense. El Camino's first goal came from a 6 on 5 possession that made the girls scramble. As the game went on, we did a great job handling the defense, but our offensive end was much more stagnant. In the end, the girls lost 4-5 in the last :02s of the game from a strong-side shot from El Camino's best player. It was a very well-played game and was anyone's to win. To put things into perspective, the girls have come such a long ways from where they were the last two seasons. A huge comeback from 6th (by a lot) to playing in a final game is a huge step in the right direction. The girls strapped on their caps once again this morning for the beginning of our last tournament of the season, in Napa, CA. The girls played extremely well in our second game of the day, but a tough game after a tough loss is hard to rally from. It took them a day to get their sea-legs back. All in all, the girls have so much to be proud of this season and look forward to doing more work this summer to improve their game!! Great way to finish ladies!!
Women’s Tennis
The hard work, the 100-degree practices, the conditioning and the fun. All of it paid off for the Lady Falcons this week as they clinched their spot as co-champions of the Capital Athletic League.
The girls began the week on Tuesday when they traveled to Rio Americano for a rematch against the Raiders. On the singles side Senior Sydney Obmann '20 got the squad off to a fast start with a 6-0, 6-3 win. On the doubles side, Emma Emigh '21 and Lena Mikacich '22, as well as Isabella (Isa) Warford '20 and Mariana Garcia '21, prevailed by scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2.
The Raiders battled back to defeat the Falcons top three seeds. Ai-Linh Tran '21 and Bianca Cabanag '21 fell by scores of 2-6, 4-6 and 1-6 and 2-6 while top seeded Fiona Babcock '21 battled showed her grit and toughness before succumbing 6-7 and 4-6.
The good news is those would be the only matches the Lady Falcons would concede. The team showed off its depth and strength with Tessa Easterling '22 rebounding after losing the first set to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Lola Jan '21 prevailed 6-4 and 7-5 while the doubles team of Kennedy Gudmann '20 and Emma Frink '21 won one of the toughest matches of the day 6-7, 6-1, 7-5 to help Christian Brothers win 6-3.
The victory put the girls in position to clinch a share of the league title on Thursday when they traveled to face the Del Campo Cougars.
With history on the line, Easterling, Frink, Emigh and Lily Witry '20 got the Lady Falcons off to a blistering start with four wins by a combined score of 48-4. On the doubles side Mikacich and Sophia Sidley '21 won 6-1, 6-2 while Garcia and Jamie Ancog '23 won 6-0, 6-3.
When the girls got pushed, they relied on their training and coaching to dig deep and pull out the victories. Jan fought hard to win 6-4, 6-4 and Obmann prevailed in three sets 6-1, 2-6 and 10-3. The doubles duo of Ashley Ancog '23 and Helana Buturaro '21 also came back to win 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3.
When the balls stopped bouncing, Christian Brothers had won another 9-0 shutout and made school history with the title clinching win. The girls will look to keep the momentum going next week when they enter the playoffs. The singles championship starts on Oct. 29 and the doubles championship begins on Oct. 30.
