Women’s Varsity Soccer
Last Friday our Lady Falcons played Manteca in a rematch to redeem themselves from last year’s 2-1 first round playoff loss. In this second round playoff match CB came out strong. In the Pre game speech the coaching staff told the team to live and play by the teams’ mantra, “ Work hard, Be aggressive and play with Desire!”. The Lady Falcons came alive from the start of the game to the end. It was easily the best performance by this team. We dominated the game with quality passing and possession. In the end CB wins 3-1 with goal from Ashley Valerio (19) Lexi Rakela (21) and Kennedy Earley (19). In the semi-finals CB’s run for the section would fall short. In a third match against Vista Del Lago this season, the Lady Falcons did play better than in the previous matches, but Mistakes with errant passes to Vista made the difference as Vista cashed in for a 3-1 victory. The lone score came from league leading goal scorer Lexi Rakela. This brought her total to 19 goals. Overall the season was a great run! The team seemed to jell and the spirit of team was alive and well. Lexi Rakela (21)was voted league MVP. She ended the season with 19 goals to lead the Capital Athletic League. All League honors go to Ainsley Carroll (20) Lauren Towne (20) Lexi Rakela (21) and Annemarie Barbour (19). Team awards for our Lady Falcons, Team MVP Lexi Rakela (21) 19 goals. Offensive MVP Ashley Valerio (19) 10 goals. Defensive MVP Ainsley Carroll (20). Most Inspirational Goalkeeper Lauren Towne(20) league leading 99 saves. The Falcon Award to Claire La Rocca (22). In all it was a great team effort. We finished the season 13-5-5 overall and 7-3-2 League.
Swim
The CB swim team has been working hard preparing for our internal Red vs. Blue meet next Thursday, February 28th. This is our start of the season spirit meet where the swimmers are broken up into two teams and race each other. Emma Busch ’20 and Tylee Schaedler-Harrision ’20 aren’t letting injuries slow them down. These two juniors will be managing their respective teams and getting everyone excited to compete. The Red vs. Blue meet will be a great way to test how well the athletes have been training and will be a great practice meet, getting everyone ready for our first league meet on March 7th against El Camino.
Dive
The diving team is enduring some very brisk weather and wind to prepare themselves for the upcoming season. Our one lone male diver, Emmanuel Moyo ‘19 is looking very sharp entering into his second season. His senior teammates, Sarah Littlejohn, Haylee Adams, and Bella Latino are always there cheering him on and encouraging our new divers. Returning sophomores, Marisa Cabrera, Simone Gandy and Shannon Shaw are much more prepared after diving some over the summer. I believe our numbers, and the experience the returning divers have will make us very competitive in our league.
Women’s Lacrosse
JV spent 2/20 learning the rule and positions of lacrosse, they are eager for their first game with Bella Vista next week. Their skills are looking great!

The teams will be volunteering this Friday at the Sacramento Food Bank. Next game is 2/27 against Bella Vista
Men’s Lacrosse
Men’s Lacrosse plays its opening game at Davis High on Friday 2/22.The boys are excited to get off of the practice field and get on to the game field. The team has put in some awesome practices in preparation for the season opener, and concluded its preparations with a prayer service and team potluck with parents on Thursday 2/21. Head Coach Bobby Otsuka addressed the team and parents with realism and positivity. The team added one final player to the roster this week. Tyler Valerio ’21 returns to the team after completing his Varsity soccer season. The team knows that Davis has a strong program and will be tough competition, but they look forward to putting their practice into motion.
Men’s Tennis
Our first match of the year was against Florin High School which the Falcons won 6-3. The Falcons started fast with all 6 singles players winning to put the match out of reach. Team Captain Chris Fong ('20) cruised to a (6-1, 6-0) win. Within a few minutes Alex Stone ('21) finished off his match (6-0, 6-1). Ryan Price ('21) followed quickly with a (6-0, 6-2) win. Then freshman Sean Johnson ('22) beat the Florin team captain (6-0, 6-3). Playing at #6 singles Kai Hay ('20) won going away (6-0, 6-0). Within an hour the Falcons had won five matches and given up a scant 7 games. In the match of the day, Anthony Tan Andia ('21) came back to win a two hour, three set slugfest (4-6, 7-5, 10-7) as the sun was setting. Freshman Mitchell Youker ('22) and Cristian Davis ('22) played well doubles in their first varsity high school competition.
JV Softball
With rain still in the forecast next week, our Lady Falcons JV softball team is eager to start the preseason schedule. They will face Liberty Ranch (Galt) on February 25th and Antelope on March 1st. Even with the roster being comprised of 5 players new to the sport, the coaching staff is encouraged by what they have seen so far. Each of them have been working extremely hard to learn the game as quickly as they can. The outlook to the season is positive with emerging leaders in Kylie Nelson ‘22, Bianca Flores ‘22 and returner Abigail Kauss ‘20. Go Lady Falcons!
Freshman Baseball
The Falcons Freshman Baseball team look to get started with their first scrimmage of the year at Folsom High School this Sat. Feb. 23rd 10am. There have been several stand outs so far in practice. We’re excited to see what the season has in store. This is a great group of young men! They’ve been working extremely hard to get ready for a great season. The team is still in need of a team manager that can input the game on the Game Changer app for all games. The team manager (student) will help set up practices and travel with the team and be asked to leave class early on away games. He/she would be a valued member of the team. If interested, please contact the Athletic Department.
JV Baseball

Varsity Baseball

Boys Varsity Volleyball
Varsity Volleyball has had a busy preseason week. At the Jesuit Jamboree, the Falcons faced off in scrimmages against Jesuit, Granite Bay, Rio Americano, and Vacaville Christian. Although unofficial, these scrimmages showcased defensive talents from Tyler Luong ’20 and Elias Vallejo ’19. On Wednesday, Christian Brothers attended another Jamboree, this time taking on Elk Grove, Capital Christian, Franklin, and Vista Del Lago. A league opponent, Vista proved to be offensively strong but CB battled back thanks to outside hitter Riley Piccione ’20 and setter Elias Hensley ’20. Rounding out the week, Christian Brothers hosted West Campus for a preseason scrimmage winning 3-0 in some exciting, and very close sets. Liam Rapp ’20 and Ben Anin’19 kept their team afloat from the service line.
CB has a packed week next week with 3 home matches: Monterey Trail on Monday, Holy Court on Wednesday, and Sac High on Friday to kick off league play. Come and support your Falcons!
Boys JV Volleyball
JV Men’s Volleyball would like to congratulate the following athletes for making the team:
Brenton Grandstaff ‘22, Manuel Ortega-Cano ‘22, Joshua Elboom ‘22, Karsten Thomas ‘22, Keaton Shafto ‘22, Ryan Rodriquez ‘22, Nicholas Edgar ‘22, Miguel Maestu ‘21, Liam Fischer ‘22, John Piegaro ‘22, Marcos Galvan ‘22, Christian Watkins ‘22, Cade Berglund ‘21, Griffin Moore ’22 and Tim Warford ‘21. We are very excited for our upcoming season. We had our first scrimmage yesterday against West Campus. It was a good test for this young team. We did very well with our blocking, hitting and serving. We all agreed that we need to work harder in practice and focus more as though we had a loss it was not due to them beating us but us beating ourselves as we will meet up with West Campus again. We regrouped after the match and cheered Varsity on and looking forward to our next scrimmage vs Monterey Trail on Monday.
