The Christian Brothers varsity football team started the season off strong, routing Burbank 64-0. The Falcons started the game off strong, as CJ DeShong ‘21 intercepted the Burbank quarterback on the first possession of the game. Quarterback Jacob Stewart ‘21 then found a wide open Sawyer Hays ‘21 for touchdown on the team’s first offensive play. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 23-0, and by halftime, it was 51-0. Burbank finished the game 1 for 10 passing for -3 yards. They only rushed for 67 yards and did not get the ball past midfield.
Seven different players scored touchdowns for Christian Brothers, with receiver Luke Jones ‘20 and running back Justin Douglas ‘21 each contributing two. CJ DeShong lead the way on defense with two interceptions. It was new head coach John Wiley’s first win as coach of the Falcons.
The Falcons look to continue their success on Friday, August 30th when they take on Pleasant Grove High School. Pleasant Grove won their opening game, defeating Kennedy 56-6. The game will be played at Sheldon High School.
